Point Peron: Operation Sandy Shovel sees more sand removed from old K Battery bunker

Tim SlaterWeekend Kwinana Courier

AN old ammunition bunker at Point Peron received a much-needed facelift after soldiers from the 11/28th Battalion of the Royal West Australian regiment shoveled out a large build-up of sand last Sunday.

It was the fourth time the soldiers had lent a hand to help the Point Peron Restoration Project volunteers restore elements of the Point Peron K Battery.

Codenamed Operation Sandy Shovel, the troops cleared the entire entryway of the old ammunition bunker.

The operation was co-ordinated by South Metropolitan MLC Phil Edman who thanked the soldiers for their hard work.

“I would also like to thank the Department of Parks and Wildlife for giving the troops access to the site,” Mr Edmand said.
