Police claim a Warnbro man threw a helmet and machette at shops

ROCKINGHAM Detectives have charged a 20-year-old man after they received reports of a man riding a motorcycle with a weapon strapped to his back.

It will be alleged police saw the man in Waikiki and when he was directed to stop, he accelerated away from police.

The man travelled through several suburbs in the Rockingham and Kwinana areas and was kept under observation by police air wing officers.

It will be further alleged at about 11.50am, the man abandoned his motorcycle at a Rockingham shopping centre and fled inside.

While running through the shopping centre, the man threw his motorcycle helmet into a store and his weapon (machete) into another store before being confronted by police and apprehended.

It is also alleged that when police searched the man they found a meat cleaver in his waist band and an amount of drugs.

A Warnbro man was charged with reckless driving, driver fail to comply with a direction to stop (aggravated), no authority to drive, stealing a motor vehicle, possessing a prohibited drug (cannabis), possessing prohibited drug (dexamphetamine) and being armed in a way which may cause fear.

He is due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court tomorrow.
