Police haved charged a man over an attack on a 76-year-old man in Waikiki

A 56-year-old Waikiki man has been charged over an alleged attack on a man riding his bike at the Charthouse Shopping Centre.

Police allege the assault happened at 10.40am on January 16, 2017.

They said the 76-year-old victim was riding his bike in the car park of the shopping centre when an argument broke out between the two men.

The alleged offender was riding a motorcycle.

They said the offender hoped off his motorbike after the argument and got into a physical fight with the victim.

The offender allegedly punched the victim, knocking him from his bike onto the ground and rendering him unconscious.

He was taken to Rockingham Hospital, and was treated for fractures to his jaw and cheekbone.

The 56-year-old man was charged with aggravated grievous bodily harm, possessing a prohibited drug and possessing drug paraphernalia.

He is due to appear in the Rockingham Magistrates Court on 23 January.
