Gabrielle JefferyWeekend Kwinana Courier

PREMIER Mark McGowan has said he was unaware of the kangaroos set to be displaced by a new housing development in Baldivis.

The kangaroos were at risk because of the new Paramount Estate development.

Mr McGowan said he only became aware of the issue when he returned from a visit to Japan and South Korea.

“I didn’t know about it,” he said.

“I love kangaroos.”

A spokesperson from the Premiers Office said the Environment Minister and Baldivis MLA Reece Whitby were working to find a solution.

Mr Whitby said he had spoken with the developer.

He said they still had the licence to euthanize but were trying to work around that.

“I have spoken to the developer, the City of Rockingham and the Environment Minister’s Office at length,” he said.

“I am hoping to get all stakeholders together early next week and sorting out a solution that involves saving the kangaroos.

“We are absolutely committed to saving the roos – I want them relocated.”
