Primary school at crossroads

Calista Primary School principal Craig Skinner said there was an uncontrolled and unmarked area where many children and parents crossed Harlow Road.

Parents have been requesting for some time a crossing here, due to their concerns for childrens safety, Mr Skinner said.

We have requested this through the Kwinana City Council and Main Roads.

The location was assessed and found that it did not qualify for a crossing of any type. The school and parent community would like a zebra crossing, but would be even happier with a manned crossing.

A Main Roads spokeswoman said Harlow Road was a local road under the care and control of the City of Kwinana.

It is councils responsibility to investigate whether this site meets the criteria for a zebra crossing, the spokesman said.

Main Roads has provided initial advice to council on the criteria for the installation of zebra crossings but no formal application has been received from the council for a crossing at this location.
