Prison groaning under pressures

On Tuesday, Inspector of Custodial Services Neil Morgan released a report into the maximum-security prison that is home to WA’s worst offenders, painting a troubling picture of a prison where both inmates and staff are under pressure.

Mr Morgan said the prison housed about 700 inmates who were a ‘complex and potentially volatile mix’.

‘It is a credit to all involved that over the past 15 years, and in the face of many challenges, it has maintained a strong record for security and control,’ he said.
