LOCAL publisher Serenity Press has welcomed Monique Mulligan as co-director of the company as part of its vision to offer emerging local authors more options in the publishing world.

Founded in 2014 by Rockingham resident Karen Mc Dermott, Serenity Press has been changing into a traditional small press publisher over the past year, beginning with its Rocky Romance anthology in 2015.

Ms Mulligan, an author and book reviewer, brings strong writing and editing experience to Serenity Press during a period of significant change for the company.

Her career experience as a journalist, newspaper editor, freelance public relations consultant and arts marketing officer will be critical to guiding Serenity Press’s future growth.

In November, Serenity Press will release a non-fiction anthology titled Writing the Dream, which features 24 contributions from emerging and authors such as Anna Jacobs, Natasha Lester and Sara Foster.

The company is also hosting a writers’ retreat in Ireland in 2017, and has plans to release a second romance anthology, a range of romance novelettes, and a selection of children’s picture books.

A KiddyInks program is also on the agenda, which will involve children’s authors and illustrators mentoring young writers.

Ms Mc Dermott said Serenity Press was growing at an exciting rate since the choice was made to transition towards traditional publishing.

“We have a great vision for the future,” she said.

“Monique is such a perfect match for Serenity Press.

“Together we will make magic happen for emerging Australian authors.”
