Rebels bikie charged over cash extortion claims

A REBELS bikie in WA has been charged over cash extortion claims, police have confirmed.

Major fraud squad detectives have charged two men following an investigation into a Rebels Outlaw Motorcycle Gang member.

Police say the men went to the Busselton home of a 54-year-old man about 12.30pm on June 14 and threatened him to obtain cash.

They then allegedly drove the victim to an ATM and forced him to withdraw a sum of money.

A 40-year-old man from Australind and a 31-year-old Rebels OMCG member from Australind were charged with demanding property by oral threats, detaining someone with intent to gain a benefit and aggravated robbery.

A spokeswoman for WA Police said: “It is alleged the men attended the Busselton home of a 54-year-old man.

“The men allegedly threatened the victim with physical harm and property damage if he did not provide them with money,” she added.

“It is further alleged they drove the victim to an ATM and forced him to withdraw a sum of cash.”

While police were arresting the 40-year-old man in Bindoon, a small amount of drugs were found by police.

A 36-year-old Parkerville man has since been summonsed to appear in court at a later date on drug offences.

The 40-year-old man was due to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court today, and the 31-year-old man is due to appear in Bunbury Magistrates Court on July 15.
