Rockingham Court: finding an iPhone on a bus costs man $1240

Matthew James Maslij pleaded guilty to stealing when he appeared at Rockingham Magistrates Court.

Maslij said he was happy to pay the compensation amount of $990 for a new phone. On top of the order for reparation, Magistrate Susan Richardson fined him $250.

The incident was captured on the bus CCTV. Maslij was arrested and made admissions to police. Maslij told the court he asked a friend to drop the phone off at the station as he was going back to Rockingham “I only had it about an hour or so.”
