SPEEDING due to distraction has cost a man $1250.

Rajko Kolundzic pleaded guilty to exceeding the speed limit by 45km/h or more when he appeared at Rockingham Magistrates Court on May 24.

Police said a speed camera detected Kolundzic’s car doing 151km/h on the Kwinana Freeway at the Spectacles.

His lawyer said at the time Kolundzic was distracted by personal issues and had been behind some cars travelling 80km/h so he wanted to overtake them. Not watching his speed, he overtook them but had to exit shortly so he went too fast.

He accepted it was wrong.

Magistrate Andrew Maughan said speed and distraction were a recipe for disaster.

“Next time Mr Kolundzic if you are distracted pull over and give yourself five minutes to clear your head,” he said.

“You’ll be safe and, more importantly to me, so will the other road users.”

Magistrate Maughan also disqualified Kolundzic from driving for six months.
