Rockingham family overwhelmed by support as father-of-four battles brain tumour

Vanessa SchmittWeekend Kwinana Courier

A ROCKINGHAM family were shocked and overwhelmed when family and friends presented them with a cheque for $5600 to help pay for their medical bills.

The money was raised from a GoFundMe page their friend Chelsea Lea set up after Rodney Baker was diagnosed with a brain tumour.

The father-of-four was diagnosed with the tumour earlier this year and has been placed on a waiting list for surgery.

While he waits for surgery, Mr Baker has suffered from the side effects of the tumour and his medication.

After surgery, Mr Baker is facing chemotherapy, radiation and possibly speech and motor skill rehabilitation.

Ms Lea set up the page to help Mr Baker pay for the treatment and daily living expenses.

Mr Baker was the sole income earner in the family; not only has his wife Michelle had to care for him and the children, she had no option but to return to work.

“If I can take even just the smallest amount of burden from her shoulders I’ll do anything in my power to,” Ms Lea said.
