Rockingham: man sent to prison for violent assault on partner after meth binge

A MAN who violently assaulted his partner by dragging her along the ground by her hair said he didn’t care because he was “on crystal meth”.

The man, who has not been named to protect his victim’s identity, pleaded guilty to aggravated assault occasioning bodily harm and breach of protective bail.

Police said the man was in the front garden of his home with his then partner at the time and another family member.

An argument broke out between the man and his partner before he aggressively pulled her to the ground by her hair, ripping some out in the process.

He then dragged her by her hair to the front fence, stomped on her back multiple times, bit her on the neck and grabbed her by the face causing grazing, redness and pain to her face and neck.

He then began slapping her arm.

Police arrived shortly after and saw the man standing over the victim, about to slap her before pulling him off her.

The prosecutor said he told police he “did not give a f***. I’m on crystal meth mother” when they questioned him about the incident.

His lawyer said he was heavily using methamphetamine at the time and had been on a binge when the incident happened.

Magistrate Vivian Edwards sentenced him to six months imprisonment.
