Rockingham: pregnant woman accused of using drugs

POLICE have fiercely opposed home detention bail for a pregnant woman they claim is using drugs.

Sophie Ann Blyth appeared at Rockingham Magistrates Court yesterday via video link from Bandyup Prison.

The police prosecutor said Blyth was arrested after breaching bail on Saturday and was taken to prison.

She was charged with 17 offences including thefts from Warnbro and Port Kennedy shopping centres, and possession of cannabis and amphetamine.

Blythe pleaded guilty to all charges.

The duty lawyer asked for bail and the police prosecutor opposed.

“We strongly oppose bail,” the police prosecutor said.

The duty lawyer asked for a home detention bail and again the police prosecutor opposed it.

“She’s actually taken drugs while she is pregnant. We do have documentation,” the police prosecutor said.

Magistrate Susan Richardson ordered a home detention report for Blyth, who was remanded in custody and is due to re-appear via video link from Bandyup on April 8.
