Police claim residents injured during violent car theft in Rockingham

POLICE claim people were assaulted during the theft of a vehicle in Waikiki yesterday.

A man went to a house in Meridian Mews at 2.20pm and police claim he used force to steal a red Toyota Coupe. It is alleged the owner of the vehicle and neighbours were assaulted requiring medical attention. Their injuries were not life threatening.

Police saw the stolen vehicle near Fremantle at about 3pm. There was no pursuit but police air wing followed the stolen car through multiple suburbs for about an hour.

Police used a stinger to slow the stolen vehicle down in Sackville Terrace, Scarborough at about 4pm.

A short time later, the vehicle was stopped in Joyce Road Scarborough and a 29-year-old man was taken into custody. A-28-year old female was also taken into custody nearby and is assisting police with inquiries.

Both the male and female were taken to hospital with non-serious injuries.

A number of police and civilian vehicles were damaged during the incident.

Police would like to hear from anyone with cars that were struck by the stolen car during the incident, or any person who have dash cam footage. Call 131444.
