Rockingham shooting accused appears in court

THE Shoalwater man, charged with shooting a man in Rockingham yesterday, was remanded in custody until March 2 when he appeared in Rockingham Magistrates Court today.

Supuk Asmir (29) was charged with attempted unlawfully to kill and did not apply for bail. His case will be heard in Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court.

It will be alleged the man was sitting inside a vehicle parked on Whitfield Street at about 12.10pm.

When the victim, a 39-year-old man from Waikiki, approached the driver’s side door of the vehicle, police claim the man in the vehicle produced a firearm and discharged it once, striking the victim in the chest. The man then drove off from the area.

Rockingham Local Policing Team officers administered first aid to the victim until St John Ambulance arrived and took the victim to Royal Perth Hospital, where he is in a stable condition.
