FAIR-FACED but up for the challenge of experiencing an essential home building trade a few high school students bonded to construct their own miniature brick walls.

Year 10 students from the Rockingham Senior High School Education Support Centre took part in the ‘Try-A-Trade Taster Program’ to experience what it might be like in the bricklaying industry.

The program is run by Australian Brick & Blocklaying Training Foundation (ABBTF).

Students were given hands-on experiences in mixing mortar, using the correct equipment and their own miniature brick wall.

RSHS Principal said the students enjoyed the experience.

“This was an excellent opportunity for our students to try a bricklaying trade on-site,” she said.

“It was a supportive environment and helped students to decide if they will pursue further studies in this trade next year.”
