Rash of shark sightings throughout Perth metro area sees beaches closed and swimmers evacuated from water

UPDATE (12pm): At 11.30am, Coogee Beach in Cockburn was closed 1km either side of the jetty after a member of the public spotted an unknown species of shark approximately 200m offshore.

According to Surf Life Saving WA, the shark was feeding and splashing.

A shark was also spotted about 600m off Rottnest, near Parakeet Bay, also feeding.

11am: SWIMMERS were evacuated from the water by Surf Life Saving WA after a shark was spotted near two southern suburbs beaches today.

The shark was spotted by the Westpac Helicopter after 10.30am at Point Peron Beach about 150m offshore.

The siren was sounded and six swimmers were cleared from the water.

The shark was about three metres long but an unknown species.

This comes after a shark was spotted feeding “aggressively” off Bunbury this morning.

It was spotted about 1.8km offshore of Koombana Bay at 8.16am.
