FLAUTIST Ana Hayes has won a scholarship offered by Mandurah Concert Band.
The scholarship was created earlier this year in order to increase the band’s focus on young players joining the band, in the hope of encouraging and developing them at the end of their schooling to continue in a community band.
The band’s Tony Schraven said many young people took up music in school but only a small percentage carried on.

“Being in a community band bridges the age barrier as well.’’
Forms were distributed to schools with music programs from Waroona to Baldivis.
Safety Bay High School student Hayes is keen for the challenge of playing music more difficult than she is used to at school.
