FREE sunscreen will be handed out along with gourmet sausages, salads and sugar-free drinks during a Cancer Council fundraiser organised by a Rockingham medical practice at the end of the month.

Professor Martin Samy said the new skin specialist at the Samy Medical Practice had picked up six melanomas in just four months.

“That’s a lot, and Dr Gurvinder Singh and Dr Christabel Samy will offer preliminary skin checks on the day,” Prof. Samy said.

Dr Singh bulk bills biopsies and skin checks.

The medical practice is passionate about social responsibility, bulk bills to make health care affordable and regularly offering seniors morning teas to combat isolation and promote healthy lifestyles.

Prof. Samy said fundraising efforts had already exceeded his goal of $500 before the event had even taken place. People would be roaming on the day with iPads to take more donations.

Local businesses have rallied to promote the sun safe message, with Malibu Fresh donating salads for the fundraiser, eastern states business Nexba donating sugar-free drinks, Kennards Hire supplying the barbecue, rolls supplied by the Rockingham Beach Bakery and 250 sausages donated by The Gourmet Butcher.

The Skin Sausage Sizzle will be held on Saturday, March 30, outside the Samy Medical Practice on Attwood Way in Rockingham from 10am to 3pm.
