Parents without Partners is a self-help group devoted to the re-adjustment and interests of single parents and their children.

Spokeswoman Michelle Leeson said Parents without Partners has a dedicated support group for single parents in Rockingham and surrounding areas.

‘We provide support and social outlets for adults and children who are experiencing the changes associated with becoming part of a single-parent family,’ she said.

‘We also support grandparents who are raising their grandkids.’

Ms Leeson said the Rockingham group had been an important part of the community for the past 40 years. ‘Single parents don’t know who to turn to and often married friends tend to shy away,’ she said.

‘It is not only hard for the parent but also for the child, who often believes it is their fault mum and dad broke up.

‘We offer support for parent and child, and it is also a good way for friendships to be formed.

‘We currently have 30 members and about 55 children but we are always looking for more members.

‘Family activities, parent education and networking are some of things we provide.’

Membership costs $55 and for more information call 9527 7168 or visit www.pwpwa. org.au.
