ROCKINGHAM’S Baptistcare Gracehaven Residential Care will help residents achieve a healthier body and mind this year.

Residents will participate in newly established Wellness Group which focuses on helping them stay healthy inside and out.

Four times a week, residents will start their day with heat packs and a smoothie, participate in seated exercises to music followed by a quiz designed to provide a brain workout.

Meditation and reminiscence sessions will also be incorporated into the weekly program.

Baptistcare Gracehaven lifestyle co-ordinator Kim Jordan said the group would prove popular, with participants embracing the opportunity for a healthier approach to ageing.

“We’ve designed the program to support residents’ physical, cognitive and mental wellbeing with activities that encourage them to stay active, and physically and mental stimulated,” she said.

“There’s a great social aspect to everyone coming together four mornings a week too.”

Baptistcare Gracehaven resident, 95-year-old Lorna Wheatley Lorna, said she created the names for each of the smoothies: Mango Tango, Tropic Delight, Chocolate Banana and Summertime Bliss.

She said she would be one of the keen participants benefiting from the group.

“The Wellness Group is a great motivation for us to keep our minds and bodies moving,” she said.
