KOORLINY Arts Centre will host WA authors Natasha Lester and Rachael Johns in conversation with Monique Mulligan at the Stories on Stage event on Wednesday, May 25.

Ms Lester and Ms Johns will be speaking about their latest novels A Kiss From Mr Fitzgerald and The Patterson Girls.

Ms Lester’s novel A Kiss From Mr Fitzgerald tells the story of a young woman ahead of her time amid the Jazz Age glamour of New York.

After some research revealed the scandal involved with women studying medicine at university during this era, Ms Lester could not wait to start writing.

“Right then, I knew I had an idea for a book; an idea that excited me,” she said. “I had a character who would do some pretty remarkable things.”

Ms Johns’ contemporary fiction novel The Patterson Girls has been shortlisted for the prestigious General Fiction category of the Australian Book Industry Awards.

“It was exciting enough when I heard my book had made the long list but it was truly an honour to make the shortlist when I was up against such talented and established authors of amazing fiction,” she said.

Johns is now an international best-selling author, with more than eight novels to her name.

Her next contemporary fiction novel The Art of Keeping Secrets is due out in October.

Stories on Stage starts at 7pm and costs $15, which includes supper, book sales and signings.

Bookings are essential on 9467 7118.

Other authors on the 2016 program are Deb Fitzpatrick, Dianne Touchell and Liz Byrski with Will Yeoman.
