Students to protest

The rally will be held during Murdoch’s Open Day at its South Street campus.

Murdoch recently announced the School of Education, which is the only undergraduate course offered in Rockingham, will move to South Street in time for the start of Semester 1.

Murdoch University acting chief operations officer Steve Dickson told the Courier last week that ‘the decision is final’.

Murdoch Rockingham Guild representative Garth McCrorie said the rally was a chance to target prospective students. ‘It is an opportunity to bring to the attention what is happening to Rockingham’s campus and that long-term study prospects will not be provided there,’ he said.

‘Also, an information session will be held on August 27 from 4.30pm at the Rockingham campus to make sure students are on the same page and what the future options are.

‘It is a tough battle for us to win because of Murdoch’s tough stance but we are continuing to fight.’

The rally will be held between 11.30am and 2pm at Bush Court in Murdoch’s South Street campus.
