Sunday, Bloody Sunday: Rockingham Blood Donor Centre to open Sundays

Vanessa SchmittWeekend Kwinana Courier

ROCKINGHAM residents now have more reasons to donate blood.

In an effort to make giving blood easier for residents, Rockingham Blood Donor Centre is extending its opening hours to include Sundays from July 1.

The Australian Red Cross Blood Service hopes the additional weekend opening hours will encourage new donors to sign up to give blood.

Spokeswoman Jessica Willet said the Blood Service was responding to donor feedback for weekend appointment availability.

“Currently our Rockingham Blood Donor Centre is open Monday to Friday, but from next month people will be able to donate blood on Sundays too,” she said.

“Although we have a number of appointments available after hours, we understand weekend appointments can be more convenient for full-time workers.”

Rockingham Blood Donor Centre needs an extra 38 people to donate blood every Sunday.

“Currently we have just 10 people booked in on Sunday, July 1, which means we still need another 28 people to make an appointment to donate blood,” Ms Willet said.

“Blood only has a shelf life of 42 days, and more than 25,000 donations are needed across Australia each week to meet patient needs.

“With one in three people needing blood in their lifetime, you never know who you could be helping.”

Rockingham Blood Donor Centre is at Unit 3A, 1 Benjamin Way, Rockingham.
