According to completed surveys returned to the city in its investigation of Bayview Reserve as the preferred site for such a park, 96 per cent of respondents supported having an enclosed off-leash park, and 56 per cent said they would use the park on a weekly basis.

The council voted in May to adopt a draft needs feasibility study into the park, and next week it will vote again on adopting the final study, which recommends Bayview Reserve as the site.

Mayor Barry Sammels did not vote on the issue after declaring a financial interest because he lives two lots from the site.
