UBER Eats launched in Rockingham today and Steel Tree restaurant was one of the first eateries to partner with the food delivery service.

Steel Tree owner Clint Wilcox said he was stoked when he found out Uber Eats would launch in Rockingham.

“I made inquiries in early October last year and an Uber Eats spokesman told me at the time there was no demand for the service down here,” he said.

“I decided to set up my own delivery service and had plans to buy a car and to have staff members running backwards and forwards with meals, but before we got it off the ground Uber Eats called me and asked if I was interested in partnering with them.”

There are currently 20 restaurant partners in the Rockingham area signed up to the Uber Eats platform.

The Baldivis resident said they started taking Uber Eats delivery orders as early as last Friday.

“The launch has only just been officially released but we’ve had a few orders already,” he said.

“We offer everything on our main menu available – breakfast, lunch and dinner.”

An Uber Eats spokeswoman said the decision to launch was in response to an article by Weekend Courier in April this year.

It will focus on expanding in Rockingham first before Kwinana.
