The Paul Stuart-trained racedog burst out of the boxes into the early lead and from that point on looked untroubled as he surged away to score by more than nine lengths in 27.33.
Astronomic’s fifth career win was his first at Mandurah and boosted his stake earnings to just under $20,000.
Stuart also had success at Cannington the following evening when Dyna Nalin saluted in the second Perth Cup Consolation but it was a Victorian chaser that took the biggest prize in WA chasing.
Exciting youngster Keybow captured the Group 1 Perth Cup (530m).

A brilliant start was the deciding factor in Keybow’s victory. The Darren McDonald-trained racedog fired out of the boxes and was able to avoid the interference that occurred behind him as several runners, including race favourite Zelemar Fever, tangled on the first turn.
Once clear, Keybow had the race at his mercy and he streaked away to score by five lengths.
