NINE people have been charged with trying to smuggle drugs into a maximum security jail.

Police claim heroin, meth, cannabis and DMT were discovered in the cars of visitors heading to see inmates at Casuarina Prison.

The WA Police Organised Crime Squad, prison officers, Corrective Services’ Special Operations Group and the Drug Detection Unit took part in the co-ordinated search as part of Operation Hammerman.

A spokeswoman for WA Police said: “The operation targeted members of the public attending and trafficking unauthorised articles, including prohibited drugs, into the prison.
