Waikiki man (26) charged with stealing BMW

A WAIKIKI man (26) has been charged with stealing a BMW and crashing it into a bollard and ticket machine in East Perth last night.

Police said a white BMW vehicle was reported stolen from Hamersley on Sunday, August 7.

It was seen last night at 10.20pm on the corner of Royal and Plain Streets in East Perth.

Central Metropolitan Response and Perth Local Policing Team officers attended.

It will be alleged as they got out of their vehicles, the driver of the stolen vehicle drove the BMW through a bollard and ticket machine in an attempt to escape.

The driver was arrested and during a search of his possessions, police claim they found about 32 grams of methylamphetamine.

The Waikiki man was charged with reckless driving, obstructing police officers, stealing a motor vehicle and driving recklessly, damaging property and possessing a prohibited drug with intent to sell/supply.

He is due to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court today .
