Waikiki man charged after 11-year-old was allegedly hit by car

A Waikiki man was arrested yesterday (September 7) after allegedly knocking a boy off his bike with his car.

Mandurah Detectives charged the 29-year-old man after an incident in Cooloongup yesterday, in which an 11-year-old boy was knocked off his bike.

Detetives claim that around 3:30pm, the 11-year-old boy was riding his bicycle along Grange Drive, Cooloongup.

It will be alleged the man drove his car towards the victim, knocking him from his bike.

They claim the man exited his car and verbally abused the boy.

A member of the public is said to have intervened and the man left the scene.

At the time of the incident there were two children in the man’s car.

It is believed the victim is known to the children who were in the car.

The member of the public phoned WA Police and the boy’s family.

The boy was taken to Rockingham District Hospital by his family and police officers investigated the incident.

The boy did not receive any serious injuries.

Police attended a Waikiki home and a Jeep Grand Cherokee was located with damage consistent with the crash.

The car has been seized for forensic examination.

The 29-year-old man was arrested at the address and was charged with endanger the life, health or safety of a person.

He is due to appear in the Rockingham Magistrates Court on Tuesday, September 27.
