WAIKIKI girl Paige Hankey (10) was bitten in the face by a dog while at Seahaven Reserve park on Father’s Day.

Paige’s mother Tracee Newton said Paige asked the owner of a brown, fluffy three-legged dog and was given the okay to pat it.

“A witness said she may have got too close and spooked the dog,” Ms Newton said.

The dog bit Paige, causing a scratch near her eye and a puncture wound near her neck.

The Charthouse Primary School student has missed a couple of days of school as she recovers from her injuries.

“She was crying in pain,” Ms Newton said.

“The doctor thinks the wound has become infected as her mouth is swollen.”

Ms Newton said Paige is now scared of other dogs and did not want to go to the park.

City of Rockingham rangers took a statement from Paige yesterday.
