WARNBRO 79-year-old Mary Spencer has raised almost $13,000 for Alzheimer’s research, all through knitting tea cosies.

“My small contribution is a labour of love in memory of my husband of 55 years,” she said.

“He died in 2011 after suffering the effects of this terrible condition for more than eight years.

“It is an insidious, horrible disease.”

Mrs Spencer said it was important for people to use their talents for a good cause.

She sells her hand-knitted tea cosies at an annual exhibition and sale.

“My little effort each year, with the help of my friends, has to date raised just short of $13,000,” she said.

“I am hoping to keep going long enough to make it $20,000.”

All money raised goes to the Alzheimer’s Australia Research Foundation.
