Warnbro: man who hit cop with car receives fine

A MAN who injured a police officer with his car has been fined $1900.

Christopher William Shortland pleaded guilty to assaulting a public officer, failing to stop for police and dangerous driving at Rockingham Magistrates Court on Monday.

The prosecutor said Shortland was driving on a street in Warnbro when he approached police attending an unrelated car accident at 7.20pm on January 5.

Police signalled for him to stop, but instead he mounted a kerb to go around the police, hitting one of the officers in the arm.

The prosecutor said a family at the scene also had to jump out of the way of Shortland’s car.

Magistrate Vivian Edwards fined him $100 for the fail to stop, $800 and six months disqualification for dangerous driving and $1000 for assaulting a public officer.
