He won the Year 1-3 picture book category in The Children’s Book Council of Australia, Make Your Own Story Book Competition.

The annual competition attracts thousands of entries from students across Australia, who have to create an original story and illustrations.

David’s picture book titled Alicazam, follows the journey of Claude, a young boy who expresses his daring desires to the magical book of Alicazam, which grants his wishes and leads him on a whimsical adventure complete with dragons and knights.

The imaginative book won over judges, who described it as a pleasure to read and a brilliant piece of writing.

‘The storyline was interesting with added depth and enjoyment provided by David’s ability to successfully describe a scene.’

Associate deputy principal Tiffany Jolly said it was a fantastic achievement for David who is an active reader and fan of Dr Seuss.

‘David was excited to share his achievement with his peers and discuss the process he undertook to complete his entry. He was recognised with a Warnbro Primary School ” Strive for Success award at our Book Week dress up assembly,’ Mrs Jolly said.

As part of David’s prize his winning picture book entry Alicazam will be on display at the State Library for two weeks.
