Wellard man charged after rocks thrown at cars

A WELLARD man has been charged after reports a group of youths were throwing large rocks from the overpass at the intersection of Albany Highway and Tonkin Highway in Gosnells.

Police received the reports at about 10.30pm on Thursday, February 25.

It will be alleged two vehicles were damaged, one with significant damage to the windscreen.

Gosnells Local Policing Team officers and South East Metropolitan Response Team officers attended and surrounded the cow paddocks between Albany Highway and Corfield Street.

The officers then entered the paddocks and a foot chase took place between officers and the youths.

Eight people were taken into custody.

A 22-year-old Wellard man has been charged with criminal damage and causing an object to be directed at a conveyance. He is due to appear in the Armadale Magistrates Court on March 22.
