A WOMAN who police allege dropped her one-month old infant seven times causing bruising and a fractured skull has been refused bail.

The woman appeared at Rockingham Magistrates Court earlier today charged with acts or omissions causing bodily harm or danger to any person, and having the care and control of a child engaged in conduct knowing that conduct may result in harm to the child.

Appearing in custody the woman made an application for bail.

Magistrate Leanne Atkins asked if the police opposed bail.

The police prosecutor said they did and he would read the facts to support their opposition.

He alleged that between the dates of May 19 and 20 the accused was at her home address and had sent several text messages to an unnamed person stating ‘this is frightening me’ and ‘the most f***ed up thing ever happened’.

He added that the infant had been dropped seven times causing bruising and a skull fracture to the right side of the baby’s head.

“We have concerns as this is not an isolated incident,” he said.

“On several previous occasions one of her children was found wandering alone in the carpark of Rockingham Hospital and she was found asleep with her partner in a car intoxicated by a substance.

“The children were taken away from her for their protection by DCP on May 20.

“I don’t think she is in the right state of mind – for her own protection and that of the children.

“I couldn’t be satisfied and she should be remanded in custody.”

Magistrate Leanne Atkins denied bail.

“It was a month old baby that had bruising to her leg and a skull fracture whom you said the child was dropped by a five-year-old on a mattress,” she said.

“Bail is refused.”

She did not enter a plea and will reappear at a later date.
