AS part of the City of Rockingham’s Summer Series of free, family-friendly, smoke-free and alcohol-free events, residents are invited to join the City in celebrating Australia Day with family and friends at Churchill Park on Saturday, January 26.

The celebration starts at 5pm and will feature live performances from Chris Gibbs Band, 2018 Breakthrough Music Competition finalists Akwaaba Drumming Circle and other exciting local talent.

West Oz Wildlife will entertain the crowds with a selection of native Australian animals and there will also be free children’s activities, amusement rides and food vendors.

A spectacular fireworks display at 8.30pm will cap off the evening.

City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels said he encouraged residents to join in the Australia Day celebrations.

“The city’s annual celebration at Churchill Park is one of our most popular annual events and has been held for many years,” he said.

“In addition to celebrating Australia Day at the foreshore, the City is also proud to conduct its annual Australia Day ceremony at the City’s administration building in the morning.

“Up to 70 new Australians will be welcomed during a citizenship ceremony and the winners of the Community Citizen of the Year Awards will also be announced.”

Additional parking will be available from 4-9pm at the Village Green.

The City has also arranged for Transperth to provide extended services for bus route 555 between Rockingham Train Station and Rockingham Beach.

The 555 bus route will be extended to 9.30pm, operating on a 15 minute frequency to help spectators get to and from the foreshore.

The City gratefully acknowledges support from event sponsors Lotterywest, Media Engine, AHG Rockingham, Rockingham Mazda, Weekend Courier and Total Kooling Solutions.
