A NEW soccer club, Baldivis FC, has been formed to cater for the increased popularity of the sport in Australia and growth of the local community.

Club founder Barry Wilders said the club was established with the original intention of holding competitions for under-6 and under-7 players.

“We hadn’t even advertised our existence, but we’ve had a number of questions on Facebook regarding what teams we would have,” he said.

“As a result, we had to approach the City of Rockingham regarding access to grounds for the 2017 season.”

Wilders said the club was eager to implement its new ideas and become one of the leading community organisations within the Baldivis area.

“We have already secured support and three-year sponsorship agreements from IGA Baldivis, Cedar Woods and Ray White Baldivis.”

Co-founder and treasurer Clint Chapman said he was hopeful the club would grow and be a community-based organisation.

Wilders and Chapman are excited about the future of the club.

“We are aiming for a high level of professionalism and targeting total inclusion, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, ability or religion,” Chapman said.

“It will offer opportunities for people of all ages to be involved.”

The club will be at Stocklands Baldivis during Rockingham City’s Winter Sports promotion day on February 4.

“We will be keen to answer any questions regarding their plans and ideas,” he said.
