Baldivis girl in running for Hyundai Junior Sports Star Award

BALDIVIS resident Sophie White is a contender for a Hyundai Junior Sports Star Awards.

The 16-year-old equalled Olympic gold medallist Sally Pearson’s Australian under-18 100m hurdles record last year. She then went on to win a silver medal in the 100m hurdles at the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires.

Sophie also competed in the Malaysian Championships in May, where she won gold in the hurdles.

A student at Tranby College, Sophie has been involved in athletics since she was eight years old. She is still a member of Rockingham Little Athletics.

Sophie also competes for the University of Western Australia.

She trains twice a week and goes to the gym throughout the week.
