Cricket: hundred from captain Bell not enough for Kwinana

A CAPTAIN’S hundred from Daniel Bell, including 14 fours and two sixes, was not enough to save Kwinana second grade from defeat in its round six two-day match against the SJ Blues at Briggs Park last weekend.

The Blues lost an early wicket without scoring but big partnerships from the next four batsmen resurrected their innings.

Kwinana took 6-33 after a rain delay to have the Blues declare on 9-250.

Rocky Sharma was the best of the bowlers taking 5-48 from 17.1 overs.

Kwinana came out with a stubborn attitude to bat out the overs to make the score.

As good captains do, Bell led from the front setting the example for the rest of the team with a great knock of 107.

Solid contributions from the middle order saw Kwinana get within reach of victory.

But a match-turning spell of 6-44 from Thomas Keefe saw Kwinana all out for 208 leaving them 42 runs short of victory.
