Golden Bay athlete smashes Busselton Jetty Swim record

GOLDEN Bay elite swimmer Rhys Mainstone won the Open Male category in the SunSmart Busselton Jetty Swim.

Mainstone (28) accepted the challenge of the 3.6 kilometre swim around the iconic landmark and was vying for the title.

He confidently won the event in 39:35:2, and smashed the record by 29 seconds.

The organisers of the event, Busselton Allsports Inc, experienced unprecedented records. They sold out in 16 hours with 2971 swimmers across all categories.

The Busselton Jetty stretches for 1.8 kilometres over Geographe Bay.
