Good win for City

Stuart HortonWeekend Kwinana Courier

City made the trip to Balga with a one-point lead atop the State Division Two table, and preserved their lead over Forrestfield United with a solid display against fourth-placed Balga.

They took a deserved lead with another assist and goal from their young midfield and strike duo Ryan Kennedy and Shane Boyle. Kennedy slipped a clever pass through to Boyle who made no mistake in slotting past the Balga goalkeeper.

Alex Grayson made it 2-0 with a thunderous shot from outside the box to leave the home keeper helpless.

City goalkeeper Cyril Sharrock then made a fine double save to deny Balga a goal just before half-time.

In the second half, City lost Matt McDonald to a knee injury, with Blake Sokolowski coming on and Max Snelson moving into centre back alongside captain Sean Brady.

Winger Papa Kpatar received his marching orders on the hour mark after reacting and lashing out after being on the receiving end of a heavy challenge.

However, City sealed victory following some great wing play from Gersholm Rowlands, who delivered a perfect pass to Roy Hissey in the box to make it 3-0.

City have another long away trip tomorrow when they take on Joondalup City.

City's reserves side defeated Balga reserves 3-1 with Ryan Haslett scoring twice, while City's under-18s crushed their opponents, easing to an 11-0 victory thanks to four goals from Josh MacKinder and a hat-trick from Callum Ribbans.
