Karate: Chief instructor Shane Haebeck is Kwinana’s Sports Person of the Year

‘THE Kwinana Sports Person of the Year is chief karate instructor Shane Haebeck.

The City of Kwinana held the annual awards on Thursday, August 17.

There were 11 people nominated for their outstanding achievements and commitment to sports in the community.

Mr Haebeck is a member of GKR Karate Club and helped players develop their skills to the level of competing at the recent GKR World Cup in Queensland.

The winner of the Junior Sports Person of the Year was Ethan McAleese.

Ethan is a swimmer with the Rockingham Swim Club. He represented WA at the National Championships and was selected to represent Australia this year. He recently returned from winning medals at the 2017 Junior Commonwealth games in the Bahamas.

City of Kwinana Mayor Carol Adams said the award ceremony gave residents a chance to recognise, honour and praise individual accomplishments of those who had made a difference in the local community through their pursuit of sports.
