Kwinana Cricket Club ready for start of new season

KWINANA Cricket Club is set for the start of the cricket season this Saturday after playing three 40-over pre-season games against Shoalwater and Bunbury side, Hay Park.

In the first of two games against Shoalwater on September 25, the Kwinana team comprised players looking to play second and fourth grade cricket.

Batting first, Kwinana scored 291 runs with Derryn Fernandez top scoring with 68 followed by Joshua Atkinson with 64.

Captain Dan Bell also notched up a handy 42 .

Kwinana’s bowlers then tore through the Shoalwater batting line up, dismissing the side for 77.

The second game featured a combined team made up of players looking to compete in this year’s one-day competition.

Kwinana again batted first taking a more cautious approach and were all out for 180 with Peter Goodier Snr top scoring with 57.

Shoalwater’s batting was constricted by some more tight Kwinana bowling and was all out for 159.

The final pre-season game was in Bunbury against Hay Park on the WA Queen’s Birthday holiday on September 26.

The Kwinana team featured players from all grades with players having to retire after getting 30 runs to give everyone a hit.

David Langland claimed a career-high three-wicket haul while helping to restrict Hay Park to 201 .

But Kwinana fell 32 runs short of Hay Park’s total, finishing on 9-169.

Josh Atkinson top scored with 36, followed by Ryan Gray on 32.

Kwinana take on Riverton in the first game of the 2016-17 season.

The fourth grade XI will be playing at home while the second grade XI is playing away.
