Lifesavers up to challenge

This weekend he will watch his son tackle the State Championships at Scarborough.

Members of the Secret Harbour club will be out in force as they attempt to win state titles and secure their place for the national championships at the coming SunSmart State Championships over the next two weeks.

Ford said his son Joe, along with Sam Maurice and Joshua Maurice, were just three competitors who had been training around the clock to be ready for the competition.

Competitors will fight it out in a range of categories, including iron man and board riding and champion patrol.

‘The guys have been involved in a fair bit of training, up to six times a week,’ he said.

‘Along with swimming they have been doing a lot of running and weights when they can fit it in.

‘My son is a big motivator for me and I am loving it all; it will be great to watch him out there this weekend.’

Ford competed at world life saving titles in Adelaide in 2012 and took home a bronze medal in the relay category.

He will also be competing at Aussie Masters in April.
