Mandurah City tests new blood on eve of derby

Staff ReporterWeekend Kwinana Courier

The local derby is at Peelwood Reserve at 6.30pm, with junior sides kicking off earlier in the evening.

Mandurah rested several players and went down 4-0 to Cockburn but blooded four 16-year-olds in the side, with only four first team members starting the game at the weekend.

‘Not deliberate, but a ploy by coach Billy Russell to give some of young players the chance to play at a higher level,’ president Pete Rowe said.

A good attendance is expected tonight when City clash with rivals Rockingham City in their final Night Series game.

‘Our under-12s will also play their Rocky counterparts at 5pm, so there’s plenty to watch, with the main game at 6.30pm,’ Rowe said.

Bunbury play Cockburn in the second game at 8.30pm.
