Model of self-discipline

The fitness guru recently competed at the International Natural Bodybuilding Association’s (INBA) competition in Balcatta and took out second place in the Fitness Model division.

The competitors were judged on their physique, including abdominal, leg, shoulder and back muscular definition.

The 27-year-old, who trains five to six days a week at The Club in Port Kennedy, said her diet leading into the competition was extreme but she had never felt better.

‘It was an amazing feeling to be called up on stage after I had trained so hard for this competition,’ she said.

‘I have never really been a sweet tooth, so cutting out sugars was not too difficult, but every time temptation crept closer, I just reminded myself of how far I’d come.

‘This was my first competition but I can definitely say it won’t be my last.’

Ms Calvert said that despite bodybuilding competitions having a male-dominated stigma attached to them, the competitions were evenly attended by both genders. The mother of two is also studying to become a personal trainer.
