THE biggest event in WA drag racing will take place at the Perth Motorplex this weekend, March 4-5.

The 46th Westernationals quarter mile spectacle will take place on Saturday and Sunday featuring cars from Perth and all over Australia.

Among them will be Perth Outlaws racer Brett Stewart who will be displaying his trio of FTP drag cars at Rockingham Mazda tomorrow, Queensland-based Team Bray racers Ben and Victor Bray and Sydney racer Frank Mamone.

The past month has been a busy one for the Brays with multiple events at Sydney Dragway, Willowbank Raceway and Calder Park before the long trip across the Nullarbor where Victor will race his 57 Chev and Ben his swoopy Corvette.

Mamone has brought his Plymouth Cuda to have a crack at the big boys.

Mamone earned legendary status with his wild mid-track wheel stands in his black Outlaw 10.5 Chevy Nova, however his entry into Top Doorslammer has had its dramas.

“We haven’t been down the track since early 2016,” Mamone said.

“We had a crash in Sydney when an oil fitting failed.

“Since then I’ve had work commitments and regrouping, which have kept me busy and away from the track.

“Thankfully the chassis had no damage and the body has been repaired and all fitted up.”

Saturday sees qualifying begin for the eight car race day field, with eliminations taking place on Sunday.

The first Top Doorslammer qualifying session starts from 6pm Saturday.
