Under-15s coach Damian Green said all the players had worked hard for the chance to be selected.

“The school boy tournament is played over four days where there will be regional representatives scouting for boys to play at the state level,” he said.

“The players are selected on a number of criteria: endurance, teamwork, values of the game and sportsmanship.

“It’s been tough; they have just had four weeks of pre-season training to prove themselves.

“New teams are selected each year.”

Green said the South-West catchment area had been widened to include Rockingham and the had players from as far away as Margaret River.

The South West Dolphins comprises teams from the southwest: Rockingham Sharks, Mandurah Storm, Australind Cowboys, Dalyellup Rhinos, Busselton Broncos, Bunbury Titans and the Eaton Panthers.

Twenty players were selected on Saturday for each age group with the under-12s kicking off the tournament on Wednesday night.

The selection matches will be hosted by the Northern Fusion and the North Beach Sea Eagles Rugby League Club at Charles Riley Reserve, North Beach until Saturday 21st April.
