ROCKINGHAM Triathlon Club opened its season on November 18 with Race I The Woodbridge/Endeavour Physiotherapy Tri.
First to tackle the course were the juniors ranging from ages five to 15 years old.
Hayden Manning, Harrison King and Phoebe Stack (five year olds) could not wait to tackle their 25m swim before overcoming a solid headwind on the 500m bike leg and finishing with a zippy 400m run.

For the more accomplished Juniors, it was a fast swim along the waters of the Rockingham Foreshore, before showcasing some great cycling skills that ensured a safe and friendly race for all. With a 400m ‘sprint’ to complete their challenge Elliot Riley, Braxton Ware and Matthew Manning were at the top end, as were Alexia, Isobel Stack, Isla and Evie Hartley. Not to be outdone Izelke Nagel, Tavan Adams and Noah Eastwood finished well.
It was a great day for the Pesich family with sisters Leila, Heidi and Amber Pesich all finishing on the podium with their father Glenn completing the men’s long course fifth overall.
Other top junior performances came from Ivan Nagal, Jason Weston, Saxon and Oakley Battams, with Emily Weston on the podium as was Shelby King.
In the senior short course the ladies had a great tussle with Sophie Burton ‘burning’ up the bitumen on the bike course, finishing ahead of Michelle Baker doing extremely well to hold off daughter Vanessa on the run leg. Karla Stack slipped into fourth spot. Lynn Hart was in the mix for her first hit out in two years.
Nathan Hart had a commanding lead exiting transition to start the run but was quickly overrun by a fast finishing Michael Taylor from the Fremantle Club. Zander Moslert was hot on his heels with Steed Wilson in hot pursuit. Hart just managed to hold onto third from Taylor then Moslert.
The competition was lively in the sprint long course with Victoria Wilson leading the women’s division from the start to end. Helen Palmer and Megan Wilson were neck and neck throughout with Jade Collins and Michelle Bovill working overtime as the sun beat down on them. Palmer and Megan Wilson finished in that order with Julie Andrea and Wendy Belford next in line.
Ryan Wilmot is in his comeback year and what a dominant performance he displayed in all three disciplines in particular his work on the bike which opened up a two minute buffer and holding that all the way to the finish line. Chasing behind was the consistent Greg Manning with Lazio Crescentini in close quarters with a closing pack including Tim Watson, Glenn Pesich and Jonathan Woon.
Other noticeable performances in the long course were Steve Riley, Tristan Eastwood, Steve Eaves and Lucas Martin.
